Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns and South Alabama Jaguars meet Friday-Sunday, March 19-21 at Eddie Stanky Field in Mobile. Game times are 6 p.m., 2 p.m, and 1 p.m.
After starting the season with 15 of the first 17 games at home, Louisiana (10-7, 1-2 Sun Belt) plays its first road weekend series of the season. UL's last road game came on Wednesday, March 3 at SE Louisiana.
The weekend set with South Alabama marks three of only nine games to be played outside the State of Louisiana in the regular season.
The Cajuns split a pair of midweek games earlier this week to wrap up a 10-game homestand. Louisiana downed Southern 13-2 Louisiana after exploding for 10 runs between the second and fourth innings to rebound from an early two-run deficit. On Wednesday, the Cajuns picked up three runs on six hits in their first two at bats, but SLU responded with nine unanswered to post a 9-4 victory. UL ended the homestand with a 5-5 mark.
UL has defeated South Alabama in four of the last five meetings at Stanky Field. The Cajuns grabbed two wins over the Jags in the 2007 SBC Tournament, then won the series in 2008 taking 2-of-3.
USA leads the all-time series 50-31, but the Cajuns have been near-even with the Jaguars (13-7, 3-0 Sun Belt) under the direction of head coach Tony Robichaux. In the Robichaux Era, the Cajuns trail by a slim 30-27 margin (11-16 in Mobile). Robichaux has been at the helm for 27 of UL's 31 series victories.
Louisiana is scheduled to send Zach Osborne (1-1, 2.08 ERA), Taylor Hubbell (1-1, 3.71 ERA) and T.J. Geith (2-1, 4.98 ERA) to the mound. The Jaguars will counter with D.D. Hanks (4-0, 1.50 ERA), Garrett Harris (2-1, 2.70 ERA).
Left fielder Alex Fuselier carries a team-high and career-best, 14-game hitting streak into the series. During the stretch he is hitting .396 (19-of-48) with four doubles, a triple, two home runs, 14 RBI, eight stolen bases and 13 runs scored..
Chad Keefer has hit safely in each of his last nine games - the longest hit streak of this career.
Zach Osborne has turned in a quality start each time he's taken the mound this season. Osborne has issued only four walks over 26 innings and is holding opponents to a .259 average.
The games will be broadcast on NewRadio 105.1 FM. Jay Walker will call all of the action from Stanky Field. The live internet feed can be found at www.kpel1051.com.
