COLUMBUS, Ga. - A grand slam by Taryn Broussard and six-inning, one-hit shutout by Brittany Cuevas gave No. 18 Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team an 8-0 win over Radford at the NFCA Leadoff on Friday. Broussard finished the day 2-for-4 with five RBI. Cuevas recorded 10 strikeouts for her sixth win of the season.

The Cajuns are now 9-2 on the season. Radford sits at 0-1.

UL would score first in the second inning after Gabriele Bridges would draw a walk and Lana Bowers would reach after being hit by a pitch. Taryn Broussard, in her first start of the season, singled up the middle to score Bridges from second. Nerissa Myers would lay down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, but with two outs, UL would pop out to end the inning.

Broussard would come up big again for the Cajuns in the third inning. After a one-out, bases-loaded RBI single by Lana Boweres, Broussard would send a shot over the left field fence for her first grand slam as a Cajun and a 6-0 UL lead.

The Highlanders would threaten in the bottom of the third. Radford would load the bases on two walks and an error by the Cajuns. But with two outs, Brittany Cueves would strike out Nichole Beall on three consecutive pitches to keep the Highlanders off the board.

Radford would fail to reach base during the remainder of the game as Cuevas retired nine-straight batters, fanning five of them.

Backing up Broussard in the batter's back was Christi Orgeron. Orgeron was 3-for-4 on the day with a double and one run scored.

For Cuevas (6-0), the win marked the second shutout this season and was the fourth time she has reached double-digit strikeouts. The 8-0 win was the 13th shutout for the senior hurler.

The Cajuns will continue play at the NFCA Leadoff this afternoon against No. 4 Michigan at 5:30 p.m. CT.
