Miami, Fla. – With five matches remaining in Sun Belt Conference action, the Ragin' Cajuns soccer team is approaching the final stretch as they travel to Florida to play a pair of important SBC matches.

UL opens the weekend in Miami with a match against Florida International on Friday, October 12, at 5:30 p.m. The squad then travels north on Interstate 95 to Boca Raton to play Florida Atlantic for an 11:30 a.m. match on Sunday, October 14.

The Cajuns are coming off a hard fought match against Western Kentucky, ending in a 1-1 draw before suffering a 2-0 setback to Middle Tennessee this past weekend.

Currently, the Cajuns rank seventh out of the eleven teams in the Sun Belt. With both UL and FAU having one victory in the SBC, the outcomes of this weekend's matches could help determine the eight teams that will qualify for the conference's postseason championship tournament. After the contest against FIU on Friday, UL will play just one match against a team that stands above them in the rankings, giving the Cajuns a great opportunity to move up in the standings.

“In order to position ourselves for the Sun Belt Conference tournament, it's going to take us playing the rest of the season like we did against Western Kentucky,” head coach Scot Wieland said. “We were a very good soccer team for 110 minutes in that match. We had opportunities all over the place and the girls from top to bottom played hard and competed. Going forward, we need to stay healthy and keep the confidence that we have built.”

Florida International (6-5-2, 3-1-1 SBC) is coming off a 1-1 draw against North Texas on Sunday. Chelsea Leiva leads the Panthers with six goals and four assists. Scarlett Montoya and Johanna Volz have added five and three goals respectively.

FAU is 3-9 on the season and 1-4 in league play. The Owls have been competitive in Sun Belt action as their last three setbacks have been by one-goal margins and two of the losses went into overtime against the top three teams in the league. The Owls are coming off a 2-1 loss at North Texas on Friday. Claire Emslie leads the squad with eight goals and 18 points, while Brittney Nash has recorded five assists.

Hayden Gibson leads Louisiana with five goals, while Elizabeth Manuel has a team high of three assists. Goalkeeper Amanda Moorefield's 64 saves this season ranks fifth in the Sun Belt.
