Soccer Set for Crucial SBC Matches

Troy, Ala. – The Ragin' Cajuns soccer team will travel to Troy, Ala. for their final road contest of the regular season with a 1 p.m. match against the Trojans on Thursday, Oct. 18. UL's three remaining SBC matches will be crucial in order for the team to remain in the top eight of the Sun Belt Conference and qualify for the tournament.

“It's going to be a battle against Troy, who we're presently tied with in conference,” said head coach Scot Wieland. “It will be a playoff-type atmosphere because both teams are sitting in the same boat. They're going to be ready to go and it's just a matter of our girls getting it done in order to accomplish their goal, which is to make it to the conference tournament. I'm expecting the team to continue to play hard which is what they have done all year. If we take care of our opportunities, we'll be in good shape.”

Louisiana and Troy are tied in the league with both teams sitting in eighth place with four points. If the two squads remain tied, the two-team tie-breaking procedure will take affect to determine who moves on to the conference tournament.

The Cajuns are 4-6 on the road this season and have been outscored 21-5 at opposing venues while Troy holds a 3-5-1 record at home. The Trojans earned a 2-0 victory over the Cajuns the last time these two teams met on Sept. 25, 2011. Troy holds an overall 3-4 series record over UL.

The Cajuns return home on Sunday, Oct. 21 for a match against South Alabama. The Jaguars currently rank seventh in the Sun Belt with a 2-4-1 record and are 1-6-0 on the road this season, losing at Western Kentucky, 2-0, and Middle Tennessee, 2-1, this past weekend. The Jags hold a 6-3-3 series record over the Cajuns.

UL is slated to close out their home schedule next Friday, Oct. 26 with senior day against ULM. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Cajuns will wear pink jerseys to be auctioned off.
