Soccer Host Two Matches This Weekend

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns soccer team returns to Cajuns Soccer Facility to host two Sun Belt Conference matches this weekend. Louisiana (7-6, 1-2 SBC) opens with Western Kentucky (8-4, 3-1 SBC) on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. before taking on Middle Tennessee (9-3, 4-0 SBC) on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
The Cajuns are coming off of a 1-1 split on the road this past weekend against Sun Belt Conference foes UALR and Arkansas State.
UL ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in goals (23), points (62), and fifth in assists (16). Offensively, Hayden Gibson leads the team with five goals and an assist for 11 points, while Erin Lynn has four goals and an assist for 9 points. Unfortunately, the Cajuns lost a big part of their offense, as junior Shelby Isley (4 goals, 2 assists) suffered a season ending injury in the Northwestern State game.
Defensively, UL has not given up three or more goals since falling to Campbell, 4-0, on Sept. 14. Senior goalkeeper Amanda Moorefield holds a 1.44 GAA in 13 matches this season, including 49 saves and 3 shutouts.
Western Kentucky comes into the contest having won four of their last five matches despite dropping a 1-0 overtime match against FIU on Sunday.
Middle Tennessee, who is undefeated in Sun Belt action, holds the nation's top-scoring offense. The Raiders are posting an NCAA-best 3.42 goals per contest.
Senior defender Gayla Foster and freshman forward Elizabeth Manuel were held out of action in Arkansas due to injuries, however both will return this weekend.
“Having those two starters back is critical for us,” head coach Scot Wieland said. “Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky are two very good teams that we always play very well against, particularly at home so we're looking forward to this weekend. If we play a full 90-minute game, our chances are incredibly good to get a result.”
