Cajuns Fall to SBC Leader Middle Tennessee, 2-0

LAFAYETTE, La. – A pair of goals by Middle Tennessee's Whitney Jorgenson was the difference as the Blue Raiders topped the Ragin' Cajuns, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

“Middle Tennessee took care of their opportunities and we didn't,” head coach Scot Wieland said. “We had a chance early in the game to score first. If we score that goal it changes the complexion of the game. Next thing you know, they're up 1-0. We needed to put away our chances and we didn't.”

The Cajuns (7-7-1, 1-3-1 SBC) were outshot 17-9 in the match by Middle Tennessee (11-3-0, 6-0-0 SBC). The Blue Raiders also held a 6-2 edge in corners.

Senior keeper Amanda Moorefield recorded five saves and spoiled many opportunities for Middle Tennessee. Moorefield ranks fifth in the Sun Belt with 64 saves on the season.

“We can play with anybody it's just a matter of putting the ball in the net,” Wieland stated. “It's simple, we need to capitalize on our opportunities.”

The Blue Raiders broke into the scoring column just four minutes into the game when Jorgenson one-timed a cross from Regina Thomas past Moorefield.

Jorgenson notched her second goal of the afternoon off of a breakaway in the second half. She was able to run onto a through ball from Kate Loye and beat Moorefield 1v1 to increase the Blue Raiders advantage to 2-0.

The Cajuns return to action next weekend as they travel to Florida for two Sun Belt matches against FIU and Florida Atlantic.
