Volleyball Collects Sun Belt Tournament Berth

LAFAYETTE – The Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team secured a trip to the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky., following Friday's action in Sun Belt play.
Louisiana (16-15, 6-8 Sun Belt) collected its ticket to the SBC Tournament after Florida Atlantic wrapped up a five-set victory over South Alabama in Boca Raton, Fla. FAU's win dropped USA to 6-8 in league play and into a seventh place tie along with the Cajuns and FIU.
The Ragin' Cajuns have completed SBC play, leaving their conference mark at 6-8. FIU (9-18, 6-8 Sun Belt) and USA (13-16, 6-8 Sun Belt) meet on Saturday in Miami in a winner-take-all match for a tournament berth, with the loser falling below the Cajuns in the league standings.
Head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot's team has qualified for the Sun Belt Tournament for the second time in the past three seasons (advanced to 2010 event in Murfreesboro, Tenn.). Mazeitis-Fontenot is the first Cajuns coach to lead the team to multiple SBC Tournaments since Chris Campbell made three straight trips from 1999-2001.
Though official tournament matchups won't be finalized until completion of league play on Sunday, the Ragin' Cajuns know that they will be seeded at No. 7 or No. 8 depending on the USA-FIU outcome. An FIU win gives Louisiana the No. 7 seed, while a USA win places the Cajuns at the No. 8 seed.
The Sun Belt Volleyball Tournament is scheduled to run Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 15-17 at E.A. Diddle Arena on the Western Kentucky University campus in Bowling Green, Ky. In addition to UL, the following schools have secured a spot in the SBC Tournament: Western Kentucky, Troy, UALR, North Texas, Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee.
