Compton Collects Sun Belt Player of the Week Honors

Chase Compton continued his hot start to the 2012 season by clubbing out 10 base hits over four games for the Ragin' Cajuns baseball team last week and on Monday was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
 
The sophomore first baseman posted four multiple-hit games, carried a batting average above .500 for the entire week and at week's end, finished 10-of-17 (.588).
 
Compton posted three doubles, a triple, five RBI and a .882 slugging percentage, including a game-winning hit in the 11th-inning on a bunt single that lifted the Cajuns to a 6-5 win over Towson in the home opener on Friday.
 
The Slidell native posted two doubles on Saturday, one of which came in a three-run fifth that opened an 8-1 lead. On Sunday, he extended his current season hitting streak to five games with an RBI single in the bottom of the first.
 
For the season, Compton leads UL with a .538 average, five extra base hits, seven RBI and has struck out only once in 28 plate appearances.
 
It's the first weekly Sun Belt honor for Compton in his career. The last Cajun named SBC Player of the Week was Mike Petello on Monday, May 23, 2011.
 
Compton and the Ragin' Cajuns host Alcorn State on Tuesday night before heading to San Antonio for the UTSA Classic. The Ragin' Cajuns will take on Gonzaga on Friday, Kansas on Saturday and UTSA on Sunday.
