Brignac Named SBC Pitcher of the Week

Ragin' Cajuns softball pitcher, Ashley Brignac was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Brignac went 3-0 at the NFCA Classic in Clearwater, Fla., including a save in the Cajuns' win over No. 12 Michigan. The senior ace threw a total of 20 innings allowing just three earned runs and struck out 20 hitters. Brignac started two games and threw a complete game in both and finished with an ERA of 1.05.
The 2011 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year is now in fourth place in the Sun Belt career record books with 718 career strikeouts. She needs just ten more to move up to third.
No. 17/18 Louisiana finished 5-0 in the NFCA Leadoff Classic last weekend, including a defeat of No. 12 Michigan 10-7 on Saturday. The Cajuns also defeated Mississippi State 6-3 on Friday, a team receiving votes both the NFCA poll and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll. The squad is now 12-0 on the year, their best start since the 2006 season.
UL returns to action this weekend as they play host to the 2012 Ragin' Cajuns Invitational March 2-4. The Cajuns will be joined in the tournament by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Nicholls State, Kentucky and Stephen F. Austin.
