LAFAYETTE, La. – After having 10 tough practices over the first three weeks of spring practice, Ragin' Cajuns head coach Mark Hudspeth decided to tone it down a little on Thursday for the 11th session of the 15 practice spring season.
And the Cajuns responded well, using the 140 minutes of practice time well to fine tune some things on both sides of the ball.
“We've gone hard the last couple of weeks,” Hudspeth said. “Even when we weren't hitting in practice, we've had some pretty intense sessions so we decided to take it a little easier on the guys and use the time to work on our fundamentals and continue to teach and refine our offensive and defensive scheme.
“We are on our way to reaching our goals for the spring season, but we don't want to do so and have it cost us because we got a player hurt and lost them for the fall.”
Originally scheduled to practice on Friday, the Cajun coaching staff moved the 11th practice up a day.
And, to add a little more importance to the session, Hudspeth moved it from the practice field into Cajun Field.
“It is always nice to work out in Cajun Field because this is our house and we, as a team, always need to give it our best in our house,” Hudspeth said.
The adjustments to practice worked out well for UL.
“We had a pretty good workout. The guys were focused and showed some progression in the drills.” Hudspeth said.
“With spring practice winding down, you can see the progress that this team has made. We've got a long way to go, but we need to go ahead and finish spring drills strong and have a good spring practice so that we can set the tone for summer workouts.”
The Ragin' Cajuns will be back on the field on Saturday (March 24) for a 10:20 practice that will conclude the fourth week of spring drills.
