Ragin’ Cajuns Sign Josh Soto To Letter of Intent

LAFAYETTE, La. -- Josh Soto (San Juan, Puerto Rico), a 6-4, 210-pound guard-forward from the Florida Air Academy, has signed a national letter of intent to attend UL and play basketball beginning in the fall of 2012.

Soto becomes the third player to sign with the Ragin' Cajuns this spring and fifth to sign this year. He joins Matthew Moss (Anacoco, La./Charis Prep) and Kasey Shepherd (Houston, Texas/Dekaney), who signed earlier this month, and Steven Wronkoski (Hammond, La./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Alex Andrews (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby), both of whom signed with UL during the early signing period in November.

“The addition of Josh is an important step for our program,” head coach Bob Marlin said. “He is a swing player who can really shoot the ball from the perimeter while also being able to get to the basket off the driblle.

“I have coached a couple of players from his high school coach before and each one came to campus prepared for the collegiate level and each proved to have good careers. Hopefully, that is a good sign.”

Soto averaged almost 20 points and six rebounds a game as a senior, helping lead Florida Air Academy to a 22-4 record and the regional quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

A member of the all-tournament team at the Holiday Classic at North Broward Prep this past season, Soto shot better than 40-percent from three-point and owned a career high of 33 points in a game.

He was coached by Aubin Gopori in high school, finishing second in the county in scoring, trailing only teammate and Texas signee Ioannis Papapetrou.

Soto is rated as the No. 19 shooting guard in Florida and the No. 71 overall prospect in the state by FloridaHoops.com, while SourceHoops.com has him ranked as the No. 74 player in the state.
