MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team heads to Muscle Shoals, Ala. for the 2012 Sun Belt Men's Golf Championships starting on Monday at The Shoals Golf Course.
UL is slated to participate in a practice round on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. before teeing off for the first round on Monday, April 23.
“Our expectations for the week are pretty high,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “We don't have to do anything special to reach those expectations. We just need for all five guys to come out and play to their potential.
“It all starts with a good practice round tomorrow. This is a very long course, but coming into the greens this course can be had. Our goal is to get comfortable with our tee shots during the practice round, and to figure out how we want to approach the greens.”
The 54-hole tournament starts at 8 a.m. on Monday morning and finishes with the final round on Wednesday morning.
The Cajuns have placed in the top 5 in six of their 10 tournaments during the 2011-12 season. Louisiana has also had two individual champions in Chris Weninger and Andrew Noto, while senior Philipp Fendt is currently fourth in the SBC in stroke average.
Brandt Garon and Yohann Vora will also tee off for the Cajuns at the SBC Golf Championships. Garon has played his best golf of late finishing in the top 25 in the last two tournaments.
Louisiana's last conference title came in 2007 when the Cajuns edged Middle Tennessee in a playoff to win the tournament.
