MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Ragin' Cajuns golf team was one of only two teams to post a score of even par or better on Tuesday as UL climbed to third place after the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at The Shoals Golf Course.

The Cajuns recorded the second lowest score of the tournament at even par (288) to move up two spots into third place (+23, 599). No.27 North Texas has a sizeable lead on UL for the team championship at four-over par (580).

“The goal of our team was to get in the final group going into the final round,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “I am glad to see us make that accomplishment. The whole team is sticking to the process and never got ahead of themselves today. Minus a few slip ups on the final two holes we could have been right there with North Texas for the lowest round of the tournament.”

Junior Brandt Garon posted the best round of the day for the Cajuns carding a score of two-under par (70) to move into a tie for 16th overall (+5, 149).

Andrew Noto continues to pace Louisiana on the leaderboard as he is tied for 12th overall at four-over par (148). The senior fired a 71 (-1) on the day, finishing strong on the back nine with three birdies.

“Andrew made a really big put on hole nine that carried over to the back side,” Sliman said. “He struggled with his putter yesterday, but really rebounded and had a good showing today. I look forward for him to continue to progress tomorrow.

“Brandt also had a good showing as he played within himself today. He didn't do anything fancy or try to force anything. We will need for him to come out and continue to play well tomorrow if we are going to make a move on the leaderboard.”

Philipp Fendt sits one stroke back of Garon in 19th place at six-over par (150), while Chris Weninger rounds out the scoring for the Cajuns in a tie for 29th at 12-over par (156).

Yohann Vora is just outside of UL's top four scorers as he is tied for 34th after recording a score of 74 on Tuesday for an overall score of 13-over par (157).

No.27 North Texas (580), No.47 Middle Tennessee (587), Louisiana (599), UALR (601) and South Alabama (606) round out the top 5 after 36- holes at the Sun Belt Conference Championship. The Eagles' Ty Spinella continues to sit atop the leaderboard at one-under par (143).

“Our goal for tomorrow is to be able to throw out an even par round,” Sliman added. “I think that is an attainable goal for us. We just need to come out and compete to our potential.”

The Cajuns will tee off with North Texas and Middle Tennessee in the final round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship. UL is slated to go off starting at 8:45 a.m.
