GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Ragin' Cajuns golf team saw its path to advance the NCAA National Tournament become a little tougher after Friday as the team posted its second highest single round score of the season on the second day of the Greensboro Regional.

“I'm shocked by the guys' performance today to be honest,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “The course is playing difficult and the scores in the field are higher today, but we still have to do a better job of executing. Fortunately we have still tomorrow to come out and look to qualify for nationals.”

UL carded a score of 17-over par (305) to drop to 11th in the team  standings with a two-day total score of 24-over par (600). The Cajuns will have to make up 12 strokes to move into the top five if the team hopes to advance to the next round of the NCAA Golf Championships.

“I thought we got off to a very apprehensive start,” Sliman added. “For the team to hang in there and be able to somewhat salvage the round was good. I'm proud of the fact that they never gave up even though things were tough.”

No.32 Liberty continues to lead the field after 36-holes with a score of even-par (576). No.41 SMU (582), No.17 Florida (586), No.5 Auburn (588) and Lamar (588) round out the top 5 teams after two rounds.

SMU's Matt Schovee has maintained the individual lead the Greensboro Regional after posting his second straight round under par. Schovee is currently at seven-under par (137).

Junior Brandt Garon still paces Louisiana as he is in a tie for 18th after posting a 36-hole total of three-over par (147).

Andrew Noto is currently two stokes back of Garon in a tie for 24th with a score of five-over par (149). The senior carded his first career hole-in-one on the par 3 12th.

Philipp Fendt sits in a tie for 41st at seven-over par (151), while Yohann Vora caps the scoring for UL in a tie for 48th at nine-over par (153).

“I think this team is going to need to reach down deep inside and find something magical tomorrow,” Sliman stated. “We are very capable of that. The goal is to be able to throw out a score of 72 tomorrow if we want to be able to qualify for nationals. Fifth place is still very much attainable for our team.

“Right now we don't have any pressure on us, so we just need to come out and perform like I know we can. These five guys need to come out and look to better themselves individually, and when it's all said and done we can count things up and see where we stand.”

The Cajuns are slated to tee off in the third and final round starting at 8:20 ET. Live scoring is available on golfstat.com.
