Orgeron Arrives in Ashland, Ohio for Team USA Tryouts

LAFAYETTE, La. – Ragin' Cajuns outfielder Christi Orgeron was one of 32 softball players from around the country to arrive in Ashland, Ohio on Saturday for the USA Softball Women's National Team selection camp the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced today.
 
In January, 12 athletes were named to the National Team. Twenty additional attendees, including Orgeron, will vie this week for the remaining spots on the 2012 USA Softball Women's National Team roster which will be announced on Wednesday, June 13.
 
The 17 athletes selected to the USA Softball roster will compete in six different events in the United States and Canada. The remaining athletes who are not selected to the Women's National Team will make up the 2012 USA Softball Women's Elite National Team and will face the National Team in exhibition play. Fans in the United States will get four opportunities to see the team in action with two exhibition stops scheduled as well as the Title IX 40th Anniversary Celebration Game against Canada on June 23 and the World Cup of Softball VII presented by Lumber Liquidators, June 27- July 2, in Oklahoma City. Following the World Cup, the Women's National Team is slated to compete July 4-9 at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada, and July 13-22 at the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada.
 
Last summer Orgeron became the first UL softball player selected to the USA National Team, where she helped guide Team USA to a gold medal in the Pan American games in October.
 
For the second consecutive year, the New Orleans, La. native paced the country in RBI with 94 and finished her career with the sixth highest total in NCAA history with 288. Orgeron tied NCAA records with six grand slams in 2012 and nine in her career. Her efforts earned her a spot on the NFCA All-America first team and was tabbed the Sun Belt Player of the Year for the second straight season.
