LAFAYETTE – The Ragin' Cajuns soccer program will play host to nine regular season matches this fall – including four of the season's first six contests – as the 2012 schedule was unveiled Friday by head coach Scot Wieland.

The Ragin' Cajuns 20-match schedule features an even split between home contests and road contests at nine apiece. A pair of neutral site matches at the Catamount Classic in Cullowhee, N.C., completes the schedule.

As has become an annual tradition during Wieland's tenure, the squad jumpstarts the season hosting an Alumni Exhibition at the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11 at 5 p.m.

The eighth season under Wieland's direction officially begins on Sunday, Aug. 19 when Louisiana makes the one-hour venture westward on Interstate 10 for a meeting with in-state rival McNeese State at Cowgirl Field.

Prairie View A&M comes to Lafayette on Friday, Aug. 24, marking the opening of the Cajuns' nine-match home slate. Kickoff with the Panthers is set for 7 p.m.

Following a Sunday matinee at Ole Miss on Aug. 26, UL returns to the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility the following weekend to begin its longest homestand of the season, hosting three straight matches starting Friday, Aug. 31 against Houston. The three-match homestand also features matches with Nicholls State (Sept. 2) and Southern (Sept. 7).

The Cajuns will be road tested following the Southern match, as a trip to Hammond on Sept. 9 to face Southeastern Louisiana begins a stretch in which six of the next seven matches take place on the road.

Louisiana's final pre-Sun Belt affairs are set for Friday, Sept. 14 (vs. Campbell) and Sunday, Sept. 16 (vs. Gardner-Webb) in Cullowhee, N.C., at the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University. It's the Cajuns first in-season tournament since taking part in the Miner Classic in El Paso, Texas during the 2008 season.

UL begins Sun Belt Conference play at home against defending league champion North Texas on Friday, Sept. 21. It will mark the final match with the Mean Green as Sun Belt foes, as NT departs for Conference USA in 2013.

A road trip to Northwestern State on Sunday, Sept. 23 is the final non-conference match of 2012, briefly interrupting the SBC slate.

The stretch of six-of-seven matches on the road concludes and Sun Belt play resumes in earnest the following weekend with the Arkansas road swing as UL visits UALR (Sept. 28) and Arkansas State (Sept. 30).

The October portion of the slate features four SBC matches at the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. UL hosts Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee the weekend of Oct. 5-7, then at the end of the month concludes the regular season hosting South Alabama (Oct. 21) and La.-Monroe (Oct. 26).

The Cage on the campus of the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., is the host site for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 3.
