Orgeron Leads Team USA Over Puerto Rico in World Cup Opener

LAFAYETTE, La. – Ragin' Cajuns outfielder Christi Orgeron led the charge offensively for Team USA in an 8-0 victory over Puerto Rico in their opening game of the World Cup of Softball presented by Lumber Liquidators, Thursday evening.
Orgeron led the squad by going 2-for-3 from the dish, with two doubles and driving in three runs, while also scoring a run.
The New Orleans, La. Native laced her first double of the game in the bottom of the third to extend Team USA's lead to 5-0.
In the fourth inning, the NFCA first team All-American hit a double to left, giving the USA an 8-0 advantage, which would prove to be the final run of the contest as the United States defeated Puerto Rico by way of the mercy rule.
The Red, White and Blue will return to World Cup action on Friday evening with a match up against Australia at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be aired live on ESPN and webcast at http://www.espn3.com. For more information visit www.usasoftball.com.
