LAFAYETTE – A preview of Ragin' Cajuns volleyball 2012 is being offered for fans on Sunday, Aug. 19 when the program holds its first-ever Red-White Scrimmage at Earl K. Long Gym on the University of Louisiana main campus.
First serve is set for 5 p.m. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
Head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot will divide her roster in to two separate teams in a best-of-five set format. Each set will be played to 25 points, similar to regular season play.
The Cajuns, currently in the second week of preseason camp, are set to get their first look at live match action.
“We decided hold this scrimmage because I wanted to make sure the girls were game-ready before we opened regular season play next Friday,” Mazeitis-Fontenot said. “It's always an anxious moment when you step out for the first serve and you haven't experienced a game situation.
“This is going to give us one small opportunity to get the jitters out and make sure that we playing at the level I expect us to be performing at.”
Following Sunday's scrimmage the Cajuns begin classes for the Fall 2012 semester on Monday, Aug. 20, then travel to Huntsville, Texas on Thursday, Aug. 23 for the season-opening matches in the Sam Houston Invitational Friday-Saturday, Aug. 24-25.
