BURLINGTON, Iowa – Freshman Thomas Strandemo bounced back from a disappointing first round at Spirit Hollow Golf Course to post Louisiana's best round of the day on Tuesday as the Ragin' Cajuns golf team is in eighth place after two rounds at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.

“As a team we didn't take advantage of some very scoreable opportunities,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “The course certainly was set up to where there were plenty of chances to score a low round. We have to do a better job of seizing those opportunities in the future. We have a great opportunity tomorrow to come out and make a statement in the final round.”

Strandemo posted a round of one-under par (71) and was just one hole away from a bogie-free round as hole 14 was the only blemish on his scorecard.

“I am very happy for Thomas,” Sliman stated. “Shooting a near bogie-free round in only his second round as a collegiate golfer shows some guts. He was able to get the monkey off of his back and show what he is capable of on the course.”

After two rounds the Cajuns are in eighth place with a 36-hole score of 16-under par (592) after carding a 293 in the second round.

Missouri continues to lead the field at four-under par (572) after the Tigers posted their second straight round of 286. Wake Forest (-1, 575), Tulsa (+4, 580), Ball State (+5, 581) and Central Arkansas (+6, 582) round out the top five teams through day two.

Missouri's Jace Long remains the individual leader at seven-under par (137).

Senior Yohann Vora paces UL in a tie for 13th (+1, 145) after tallying a score of 74 of the day. Heading into hole 18, Vora had dropped four strokes in the previous three holes, but was able to recover with an eagle on the final hole.

“I was glad to see Yohann recover on 18 to salvage what could have been a bad round for him,” Sliman said. “That really showed some leadership from a guy we are going to depend on a lot.”

Brandt Garon also bounced back with a solid round on Tuesday carding a 73 to finish the day in a tie for 33rd at five-over par (149).

Freshman Ross Davis and senior Ethan Savoy are both tied for 39th at seven-over par (151), while Strandemo is in a tie for 54th at nine-over par (153).

“What I am seeing is that our guys are getting a little ahead of themselves,” Sliman added. “We aren't finishing off rounds. We need to stay within ourselves and to have full commitment. If we do that we will put up some good numbers.”

The Cajuns tee off at 8:30 a.m. with Jacksonville State and San Francisco in final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge. Live scoring for the final day is available on golfstat.com.
