WACO, Texas – The 71st ranked Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team opens the 2012 Fall Season at the prestigious HEB Intercollegiate hosted by Baylor this weekend, Sept. 21-23, in Waco, Texas.
The Cajuns will face a loaded field as six of the 11 teams competing are ranked nationally including No.17 Tulsa, No.18 Baylor, No.20 Tennessee, No.45 Virginia Tech and No.56 Rice. DePaul, Idaho, UT-Pan American, UTSA, Southern Miss, Laredo Community College and Midwestern State round out the field.
“We really don't know what to expect,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “The one thing I want the guys to do this weekend is compete and scrap for every single ball.”
There is one 64-player singles draw and one 32-team doubles bracket at the HEB Intercollegiate. Louisiana opens play Friday at 8 a.m. with the finals to be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
UL will get its first look at its nationally ranked recruiting class as five newcomers take to the courts for the first time in Vermillion and White including Hunter and Yates Johnson, Hunter Goertz, Coleman Wahlborg and Mauricio Fosado.
After the HEB Intercollegiate, the Cajuns will have a week off before heading to the Lamar Invitational on Oct. 5-7.
