TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Doubles action highlighted the second day at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships as the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team had two teams pick up strong wins.
Twins Hunter and Yates Johnson defeated the team of John Michael Busch and Eric Perez from LSU, 8-4, to advance to the next round.
Carl Alberton and Will Huyton teamed up to win against Brian Conlon and Stuart Kenyon of Alabama, 8-4, to move on to the round of 16.
"I liked how we came out in doubles today with the Johnson twins and Huyton and Alberton," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "Both teams defeated SEC opponents."
Edgar Lopez and Damian Farinola came up short against Joseph Van Dooren and Daniel Cochrane of Auburn in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (4).
"Edgar and Damian took a very good Auburn team all the way for the tiebreak and they played well," Jeffrey added. "I like our chances tomorrow in doubles we have a good chance to make a deep run."
Jarred and Jake Wynan saw their tournament come to an end with an 8-6 loss against Alex Van Cott and Sebastian Rey of Tulane.
