HOUSTON, Texas – The Ragin' Cajun men's tennis Team had a perfect first day at the USTA Houston Futures event going a combined 4-0 in the first round of competition.

Sophomore Edgar Lopez highlighted the performances on day one defeating fourth seeded Hans Hach of Mexico, ranked 1500 ATP, in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3.

"Edgar stayed really calm and stayed focus the whole match," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "I was proud of his mental fortitude today."

Fellow sophomore Jake Wynan also notched a first round win defeating Spencer Smith, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

"Spencer played No.2 and No.3 for 39th ranked BYU last year, so that is another quality win for our program," Jeffrey mentioned. "Jake also stayed mentally strong and physically outlasted his opponent today.  The heat really played a factor in helping Jake, but he was only able to take advantage because if how physically in shape he is."

In other results Damian Farinola defeated Scott Nguyen, 6-1, 6-0, and Jarred Wynan picked up a strong 6-1, 6-1 victory over Jack Oswald of Great Britain.

"Both Jarred and Damian took care of business today and are ready for tomorrow," Jeffrey added.
