LAFAYETTE, La. -- Johnathan Stove, who was ranked the No. 3 player in the state by Nola.com, has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and play basketball beginning in the fall of 2014.  Head coach Bob Marlin announced the signing on Thursday, the day after the early signing period ended.

Stove is the third player to sign with the Ragin' Cajuns, joining Scott Plaisance (New Orleans, La./Country Day) and Bryce Washington (New Orleans, La./St. Augustine), both of whom signed national letters of intent last week.

"Johnathan is a big, strong wing who can play multiple positions and he's a proven winner who is all about team play," Marlin said.  "He had a great spring and summer on the AAU circuit and I know he is looking forward to winning another state championship for Christian Life.

"He is physically ready to play at this level right now, having what we call a 'college ready body,' which will let him compete as a freshman."

"We are excited about the three early signings we've had," Marlin said.  "We have added three solid kids from traditionally strong programs from Louisiana who will be able to give us help at just about every position.  It's a great class."

Stove, a 6-4, 215-pound swing player from Baton Rouge, La. earned first all-state honors after averaging 19.8 points as a junior.  He was named to both the state Class A team and to the 11-man all-classes team by the Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association.

With Stove leading the way, Christian Life Academy went 27-6 and advanced to the semi-finals of the state tournament.

As a sophomore, Stove led Christian Life Academy to a 26-7 record and was named the MVP their 66-60 win over White Castle in the Louisiana Class 1A state championship game

Stove had a strong impact during the summer AAU season, leading Team Nike Louisiana in both scoring (12.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg), adding 1.6 assists per game and shooting .369 from three-point.

He is coached at Christian Life Academy by Stephen Dale.

The Ragin' Cajuns (2-2) will be in Conway, S.C. over the weekend to play two games in the EA Sports Maui on the Mainland.  Louisiana will face Oakland at 5:30 p.m. CST on Saturday (Nov. 23) and then play either St. Francis Brooklyn or host Coastal Carolina on Sunday (Nov. 24).
