NEW ORLEANS --  After arriving in the Crescent City on Tuesday afternoon and enjoying a liberal curfew, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team got back to work on Wednesday morning, holding the first of three practices in New Orleans leading up to Saturday night's meeting with Tulane in the 2013 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

After an early-morning breakfast followed by position meetings, the Cajuns were on the Mercedes-Benz Superdome turf at 11 a.m. to hold a 90-minute practice session.

The biggest question that Cajuns fans had was regarding the availability of junior quarterback Terrance Broadway, the reigning New Orleans Bowl MVP.

Broadway, who suffered a broken arm in the Nov. 30 game with ULM, took part in the practice but was still doubtful for the game, according to head coach Mark Hudspeth.

"He looked good today," Hudspeth said.  "We had him on a pitch count so he got out there and threw about 50 balls.  He was a little rusty but looked good.  He hasn't been cleared to play, but if he is, he'll play."

Despite the uncertainty regarding Broadway, Hudspeth was happy with the first practice.

"It was good to get out there today," Hudspeth said.  "We had good energy.  It was very productive."

When the practice was complete, the players were treated to a new aspect of the bowl, a trip through the gift room.

Under NCAA rules, the bowl is permitted to give each player gifts for participating in the event.  Last year, the bowl picked the gifts for the players.  This year, the players were given the opportunity to pick their own gifts from a list put together by the New Orleans Bowl.

"That was a nice change this year," sophomore linebacker Al Riles said.  "We received a real nice gift last year, but this year was 10 times better because we got to pick our own.

"Everybody on the team has their own tastes so we were able to pick what we liked," said Riles, who selected a red recliner with a surround-sound audio system.

"It was something different," Riles added.  "I wasn't the only person to make that choice.  I think it was a favorite on the team."
