Cajuns In 11th After Blustery Day One At Mobile Bay

MOBILE, Ala. – Despite finishing the first round in 15th place, the Ragin' Cajuns golf team rebounded in a second round that was halted due to darkness to sit a tie for 11th after a cold and blustery first day of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Golf Club.
 
“Conditions were tough today,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “Hats off to Auburn for shooting even par. I thought we certainly did experience a glimpse of some good chemistry with the lineup this week. I expected a little more out of our seniors, but at the same time they fought hard all day.
 
Teams had to wait for 45 minutes for action to get underway as there was a frost delay to start the day on Monday. Louisiana went on to post a round of 21-over par (309) in the first round.
 
In the second round, play was halted with some players just 11 holes into the round. The Cajuns currently are tied with Illinois State at 29-over par.
 
“To see the team move up the leaderboard after the first round shows that the guys are being resilient and bouncing back from their mistakes,” Sliman mentioned.  “We have a great opportunity tomorrow with four teams ranked inside the top 50 being in reach. Hopefully tomorrow we pick right back up where we left of with the glimpse of good golf at the end of the day.”
 
No.27 Auburn leads the field at even par. Memphis (+8), No.19 Illinois (+9), No.49 Mississippi State (+11) and No.14 LSU (+11) round out the top five teams after the first day.
 
Auburn's Niclas Carlsson sits atop the individual leaderboard at two-under par. Senior Brandt Garon leads the Cajuns in a tie for 19th at four-over par.
 
The second round is slated to resume at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, while the third and final round with start immediately following the completion of the second round.
