Cajuns To Face Western Michigan At HEB Tournament Of Champions

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team is slated to face Western Michigan at 9 a.m. Friday in the first round of the HEB Tournament of Champions hosted by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, Steve Moore, the director of the tournament, announced on Thursday morning.

The Cajuns (5-5) will then face either No.30 BYU (10-2) or Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (1-5) in the second round later that day at 4 p.m.

“Going back to the HEB Tournament of Champions is always a great event for our players,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “Steve Moore, the director of the tournament, does a great job of make everyone feel comfortable. We are looking forwards to the tournament this weekend.

The final round of the HEB Tournament of Champions will take place on Saturday with the match time to be announced.

No.34 Middle Tennessee, DePaul, UTSA and South Alabama make up the other side of the bracket at the HEB Tournament of Champions.

Western Michigan (8-5) comes into the contest having dropped its last two matches to No.36 Drake 6-1 and Iowa 4-3. The Broncs are 0-3 away from Kalamazoo, Mich. and are led by junior Nidan Indre who has a 10-2 record in match play.

Freshman Hunter Johnson leads the squad with a 6-1 record in the spring, while Rick de Groot, Jake Wynan and Edgar Lopez have each posted five wins in dual match play.

The duo of Jake Wynan and de Groot has had a strong spring campaign posting a 7-2 mark thus far.
