NATCHITOCHES – The Ragin' Cajuns baseball team's midweek game with Northwestern State here at Brown-Stroud Field on Wednesday was suspended by inclement weather in the fourth inning.
After finishing three complete innings a weather delay began at 7:35 p.m. Rain showers persisted until both coaching staffs decided to suspend the game at 9:35 p.m.
Louisiana was leading 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning when the determination to suspend the contest was made.
The two teams will resume the contest at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 at Brown-Stroud Field.
Dex Kjerstad broke a scoreless stalemate between starting pitchers Matt Plitt and Dillon Crain with a two-out, two-run home run in the third inning.
Plitt stranded a Demons runner at third base a third straight inning when he induced a fly out from Will Watson after back-to-back two out singles from Edwin Gomez and Toby Cornejo placed runners on the corners.
Tyler Girouard homered a second straight night, leading off the fourth inning with a solo home run off of Crain to increase the Cajuns lead to 3-0.
Shortly after Girouard's home run NSU's storm detection system siren sounded signaling the weather delay.
The Ragin' Cajuns departed Natchitoches and traveled to Little Rock, Ark., to begin preparing for a three-game Sun Belt series with UALR Friday-Sunday, April 12-14 at Gary Hogan Field. Start times for the Cajuns and Trojans series are 6 p.m. on Friday, 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
