Game Notes

WHAT'S ON TAP?  The red-hot Cajuns will finish up their current seven-game home stand with a nonconference doubleheader against Houston.  Counting the Houston doubleheader, the Cajuns have just five home games left, and six road match ups before the playoffs.

CAJUN UPDATE:  The 30-11 Cajuns returned to the national rankings this week after a four week absence and now sit at 25th and 21st in RPI rankings.  The Cajuns won all five games last week, and have won their last twelve.  They swept conference foe Middle Tennessee over the weekend, winning by scores of 10-0, 6-3 and 6-0.

THE COUGARS: The Cougars are 29-12 on the season and 12-3 in Conference-USA play, and have won ten of their last 12 games.  They are coming off a sweep of UTEP over the weekend.  The Cajuns swept Houston in a doubleheader at Houston last season, winning 12-7 in extra innings, and 3-2.  Houston has a trio of batters leading them offensively.  Katie St. Pierre and Holly Outon lead the team with a .387 batting average, and Kayla Holland is batting .377 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI.  In the circle they are paced by Bailey Watts.  Watts has started 17 games, going 15-4 with 89 strikeouts in 23 total appearances and 123.1 innings pitched.

WALLACE JOINS ELITE GROUP: Sophomore pitcher Jordan Wallace now finds her self in an elite group of just 16 pitchers who have struck out 18-or-more batters in a seven-inning game.  It was the seventh time this season she has reached double-digit strikeouts.  She also now holds the UL record for strikeouts in a seven-inning game.

WALLACE ON A HOT STREAK:  Wallace's 18 strikeouts on Sunday were no fluke, the sophomore has been dominant in the circle as of late.  She has won her last nine decisions, and has not allowed a run since the sixth inning against Florida International on Sunday, March 30 (33 innings).

CAREER RECORD WATCH:  Nerissa Myers has averaged one run per game since her return from an ankle injury.  She now has 28 runs scored on the season, and 219 in her career, placing her second all-time at Louisiana. She is just 11 runs away from tying Jerie Alexander (1999-02) at 230 runs, the most all-time at Louisiana.

HITTING THE RECORD BOOKS: In the first game of the Cajuns' doubleheader against Southern Miss, the Cajuns tied one NCAA record and reached several Ragin' Cajuns Softball Records.  As for NCAA records, the Cajuns tied the record for most home runs in an inning (5), and individually, most home runs in an inning (Landry, 2).  Landry also tied a Ragin' Cajuns record for most total bases in a game with 13, and most home runs in a game with three.  It was the third time in Ragin' Cajuns history that they hit six home runs in a game, the last time was also against Southern Miss, on April 4, 2006.

WALLACE COLLECTS MORE ACCOLADES: Jordan Wallace picked up her third SBC Pitcher of the Week award of the season on Monday, April 15, following a stellar weekend that included an 18-strikeout performance against Middle Tennessee.  The Sophomore has now won seven Pitcher of the Week awards.  She was named the Preseason Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year before this season.

HAACK ATTACK:  Matte Haack got a hit in every game last week, leading the Cajuns at the plate. She is batting .420 during the teams current 12 game winning streak, with 19 RBI and five home runs.

WELCOME BACK NERISSA MYERS: In her first at-bat back from a five-week layoff with an ankle injury, Nerissa Myers hit a lead off home run in game one of the North Texas series.  Her offensive onslaught didn't stop there, however.  She doubled in a run in her next at bat before hitting a grand slam in her fourth at bat of the game.  She followed that up with a home run in game two of the doubleheader and knocked in eight runs on the day.

DRIVING THEM IN: Three Cajuns rank in the top five in runs batted in the Sun Belt Conference. Shellie Landry reclaimed the conference lead last week and now has 45 on the season, Sarah Draheim sits in second with 43 and Matte Haack sits at fifth in the conference with 37.  As of Monday, April 15, Landry is 24th in the nation with 1.13 RBI/Game.

WALLACE IN THE SUN BELT: Jordan Wallace has been on-point against fellow Sun Belt teams.  So far this season she has gone 9-2 in 10 starts and 13 appearances, striking out 121 batters in 66.0 innings pitched with a 1.59 ERA.  In her career she has gone 20-3 with 204 strikeouts and a 1.68 ERA in 27 appearances.

RUNS PER GAME: With 288 runs scored this season the Cajuns are atop the Sun Belt leader board.  As of Monday, April 15, they ranked 10th in the nation with 7.02 runs per game as of March 31.

FIRST-YEAR FOCUS: With three freshmen in the starting lineup for every game this season, the future is bright for the Cajuns.  Shellie Landry, Sara Corbello and Samantha Walsh have had a strong impact on the team in their first year of competition, combining for 20 HR and 92 RBI.  First-year players as a whole are batting .297 on the season (127-for-427) with 102 RBI, 23 HR, and 92 runs scored.  Last season a veteran Cajuns squad didn't send a freshman to the plate.

HOME RUNS...HOME RUNS EVERYWHERE: The Cajuns have hit 58 home runs on the season and lead the Sun Belt Conference.  As a team, the Cajuns rank 15th in the nation in home runs per game with 1.25.  Individually, the Cajuns have four batters in the top seven in the conference, leader Shellie Landry has 11, Sarah Draheim is tied at second with 10, and Matte Haack & Brianna Cherry are in a 4-way tie for 4th with nine.

WHAT A WEEKEND: Freshman Sara Corbello had a banner series against FIU on the weekend of March 29-30.  She led the weekend off with a career-high four RBI performance going  2-for-4 with a two-run home run in game one, before matching her new career best, with her first career grand slam on Saturday in the finale.

DOMINATING THE DISH: Senior catcher Sarah Draheim has been a huge presence both behind and at the plate for the Cajuns this season.  She leads the team with 296 putouts, and has started every game at catcher.  She is batting .412 on the season and is second on the team and conference behind Shellie Landry, with 43 RBI and 10 home runs.  Draheim batted .250 in her first three seasons.

LET'S GET IT STARTED: The Cajuns have scored in the first inning in 25-of-41 games this season, and are 20-5 in those games.  The Cajuns have scored first in 33-of-41 games and hold a record of 26-7 when scoring first.
