BATON ROUGE – Members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the field dimensions and atmosphere at Alex Box Stadium, site of the 2013 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, as the squad held a one hour, fifteen minute practice session Thursday afternoon.
For several members of the Cajuns squad it will be their first time participating on the field at Alex Box as the squad's annual meeting with LSU took place at “The Tigue” back in February.
The hitters took batting practice and the pitchers held a brief bullpen session on the eve of the team's Baton Rouge Regional opener vs. Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Following practice, head coach Tony Robichaux along with third baseman Tyler Girouard and right fielder Dex Kjerstad held an interview session with the media.
On Friday, Louisiana will make the program's 13th appearance in the NCAA Baseball Championship and ninth of the Tony Robichaux era. UL meets Sam Houston State at 7 p.m.
The Cajuns are back in Baton Rouge for the regional round for the first time since 2002.
The Ragin' Cajuns bring one of the nation's top offensive units into the Baton Rouge regional. Louisiana ranks Top 10 nationally in average, runs, hits, doubles, home runs and slugging percentage and is hitting .352 and slugging .587 since May 1 scoring five-plus runs each game during the timeframe.
HOW TO WATCH BATON ROUGE REGIONAL CONTESTS
Live streaming video is available on ESPN3.com and is also available on the WatchESPN application for mobile devices. There is no over-the-air television for the Baton Rouge Regional games.
ESPN has the right to carry all NCAA baseball regional tournament games in 2013, and it determines on what platform the games will be televised. All NCAA regional tournament games across the country will be carried on an ESPN platform and it was determined that the Baton Rouge regional would be made available only on espn3.com.
ESPN has also launched the Bases Loaded platform — similar to ESPN Goal Line and Buzzer Beater for college football and basketball — to provide unlimited live cut-ins and highlights from numerous games and up-to-the-minute commentary from ESPN experts over the four days (Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, from 1 p.m. CT to 11 p.m. CT; Sunday, June 2, from 1 p.m. CT to midnight CT; and Monday, June 3, from 5 p.m. CT to 11 p.m. CT).
