BATON ROUGE, La. – Former Ragin' Cajuns golfer Devin Carrey used a final round score of five-under par (67) to claim his first Adams Golf Pro Tour victory claiming the championship at the Merrill Lynch Open at Santa Maria Golf Club last week.

“It was kind of nice being back, I always enjoy being in Louisiana,” Carrey said. “I had no idea what I needed to do on 18, so I was just going for a birdie. I hit a great five-iron from 200 yards and was able to two-putt on a soggy day.“

Carrey started the day two shots back of tour points leader Lance Lopez and carded a solid round of just one bogey and six birdies. The Surrey, British Columbia native knocked down a huge birdie putt on 18 that ended up being the difference in the rain-shortened event.

“I'm just excited to notch my first big win.” Carrey stated. “I have won some other tournaments before but nothing of this magnitude. I can't wait to get back out there and to play on the PGA Tour Canada this summer.”

Carrey played for the Ragin' Cajuns from 2007-09 under head coaches Bob Bass and Theo Sliman. During that time, Carey became the second golfer to post a 66 at the Louisiana Classics and earned an individual spot at the NCAA Regionals in 2009.

“Coming from Canada the goal was to go as far south as you could because you want to be in a warm area and play all year long,” Carrey mentioned. “I was very fortunate to end up in Lafayette where I could play year round and improve my game.''

Carrey is slated to play in the Adams Golf Pro Tour Gateway Championship in Garland, Texas from May 22-25 before joining the PGA Tour Canada in June.
