LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer program and head coach Scot Wieland announced the 2013 schedule on Wednesday. It will be the ninth season of play under Wieland, who coached the Cajuns to an 8-10-2 record in 2012.
The schedule consists of 18 games, 10 non-conference matches and eight Sun Belt matches, with 11 of those matches coming at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. The non-conference portion of the schedule consists of one SEC opponent (Ole Miss), three Southland opponents (Southeastern, Northwestern St, Nicholls St.), and three SWAC opponents (Southern, Prairie View A&M, Miss. Valley St.).
The Cajuns will open up the season on the road against Ole Miss on Aug. 23, before opening a five-game homestand against Jacksonville State on Aug. 25.
The homestand will stretch from Aug. 25 – Sept. 6 with visits from Jacksonville State (Aug. 25), Southeastern (Aug. 27), Southern (Aug. 30), Northwestern St. (Sept. 1), and Louisiana Tech (Sept. 6).
After one game on the road, at Nicholls State (Sept. 8), the Cajuns will be back in Lafayette for a pair of games, first against Prairie View A&M (Sept. 13), and then against Miss. Valley State (Sept. 15).
They will then take to the road for their longest road trip of the regular season from Sept. 20-Oct. 6. The road trip will start with their last game of nonconference play, at Houston (Sept. 20), and finish with the first three conference matches of the season – Georgia State (Sept. 27), Western Kentucky (Sept 29), ULM (Oct. 6).
The longest road trip of the season leads into the second-longest homestand of the season, when the Cajuns return home for three more conference matches, against UALR (Oct. 11), Arkansas State (Oct. 13) and Texas State (Oct. 18).
The Cajuns will embark on their final regular-season road test, when they take on South Alabama (Oct. 27), before returning home for the final home game of the season when Troy comes to town on Oct. 27.
The 2013 Sun Belt Soccer Championships will be hosted by conference newcomer Texas State, in San Marcos, Texas from November 6-10th.
