LAFAYETTE, La. – After leading the Ragin' Cajuns softball program to 47-15 record and a second straight NCAA Super Regional appearance, Sarah Draheim and Jordan Wallace were named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Hitter and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
The duo was just the headline of the honors for the Cajuns who placed six on the first and second teams of the All-Louisiana awards. They were joined by Nerissa Myers and Brianna Cherry on All-Louisiana first-team, while Shellie Landry and Matte Haack were named to the All-Louisiana second team.
The Cajuns led the state in first-team selections for the sixth consecutive season, with four members named first-team All-Louisiana.
Draheim was the overwhelming selection for LSWA Hitter of the Year, receiving 15 of 18 possible votes. She finished the season with a team and conference-high 17 home runs, and 67 RBI.
A senior from Flower Mound, Texas, Draheim was named third team NFCA All-America last week, as well as first-team All-Sun Belt. She finished her career at Louisiana with a fielding percentage of .9943, the highest fielding percentage of all-time, topping Tiffany Whittall's .9938 from 1992-95.
Wallace was the ace in the circle this year, going 32-9 with a 1.70 ERA and 382 strikeouts. Her 32 wins tied her at fourth with Ashley Brignac's 2011 season, and her 382 strikeouts were the second most in Cajuns history.
She finished the season strong, posting shutouts in all three NCAA Regional games at Baton Rouge. Other highlights of her season included an 18-strikeout performance against Middle Tennessee State and an eight-inning no-hitter against Florida International, in which the aforementioned Draheim hit an extra-inning home run for the victory.
Draheim, Wallace, Myers, Cherry and Haack were all named to the All-Louisiana teams last season, and Landry, a freshman, picks up her first career honor.
Myers finished up a record-setting career, putting up strong offensive numbers, despite missing 18 games with an ankle injury. Myers batted .400, while scoring 52 runs and driving in 37. In her first game back from her injury, she led the game off with a home run, doubled in her second at-bat and hit a grand slam in her fourth at-bat of the game.
Cherry is coming off of her first career NFCA All-American selection, as well as a first-team All-Sun Belt nod. She put up career-high numbers in almost every category and started every game in center field. She slugged 14 home runs on the season and scored a team-high 65 runs, and finished the season batting .393.
Haack was named second-team All-Louisiana after a late season surge boosted her offensive numbers. She finished the season batting .326, with 13 home runs and 58 RBI. She also crossed the plate 47 times, and finished the season in a three-way tie for the team lead with Myers and Cherry at 12 doubles. Haack was also named first-team All-Sun Belt.
Shellie Landry rounded out the All-Louisiana selections after an impressive first season. She was second on the team with 15 home runs and 61 RBI, starting 61-of-62 games in left field. She led the team and conference in home runs for much of the season, which led her to a second-team All-Sun Belt selection.
A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of media and sports publicists selected the All-Louisiana team, based on statistics and performances through the teams' conference tournaments.
