Day 8: August 15 2013 – Albacete and Madrid
Â
MADRID, Spain – Wow, we're already in our final destination of the tour, and it's the capital of Spain, Madrid! It is crazy to think that we're already on the final stretch before heading home.
Â
The morning started in Albacete, with breakfast and packing before boarding the bus. It is a religious holiday in Spain, so the town was filled with families walking around and enjoying the beautiful weather. It's a bit of a change from Louisiana, the humidity is much lower and we haven't seen a drop of rain yet. Now that I say that, it will probably rain tomorrow…opps.
Â
Madrid is the largest city in Spain, and as our tour guide Ali says it's 'One of the younger cities in the country, just 500 years old'. That's some history if you are saying 500 years is a short time.
Â
To compare Madrid to the other cities and the US, it is a bit like New York in the way it's laid out and such, with Barcelona being a closer example to Los Angeles. There are many museums, theaters, and cool looking buildings, which are much less modern than the ones we saw in 'new' Valencia but still very appealing to the eye.Â
Â
Our hotel is on a street that is so narrow that our bus can't fit down it, which means we have to walk about a block to get there, which isn't a horrible thing, really. Right outside of the hotel is a large courtyard with many restaurants, one of which we ate at for dinner.
Â
I think it was the fifth or sixth time we have had steak on this trip, but never have we had the same cut of meat so it's always a bit different. I can't complain, I love steak.Â
Â
It was off to the game after that, which was about a half hour drive from our hotel. It was another fun game, which the Cajuns won 94-67, this time against a college aged team, who plays one or two NCAA teams doing trips like this a year. Last year this team defeated Boston College, which is a testament to their level of play. To read the full recap from the game, go here.
Â
We had pizza delivered to the gym for after the game for a post game meal, and enjoyed that before jumping back on the bus and heading back to Madrid to call it a night.Â
Â
Tomorrow is an off day from basketball, so we will get to see the sights and sounds of Madrid and take it in on one of our final days in Spain.Â
That's it for tonight, check back tomorrow for what will be a much busier day!Â
