First pitch slated for 5 p.m. at Lamson Park

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team continues their fall exhibition schedule Saturday when the squad welcomes the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) All-Star Team to Lamson Park for a doubleheader set to begin at 5 p.m.

The evening will serve as Louisiana's ALS Awareness Game, honoring those affected by the disease including junior Kelsey Vincent and volunteer coach Robert Verde, who both lost parents to the disease.

Appearing for the NPF Team will be 10 athletes, two being former Ragin' Cajuns in Nerissa Myers and Sarah Draheim, who were four-year letterwinners for Louisiana from 2010-13. Myers (Akron Racers) was named the NPF Offensive Player of the Year in August. In 2014, Myers led the league in RBI (43), two-out RBI (19), slugging percentage (.599), and was also in the top four in batting average (.365) with 50 hits, nine home runs and five doubles. Draheim, currently a graduate student manager for the Ragin' Cajuns, was a three-time all-Sun Belt selection in addition to earning NFCA All-American and All-Region honors in 2013.

The NPF Team will also include current Louisiana assistant coach Lisa Norris, who just wrapped up her sixth season playing for the Akron Racers. She will be joined by Akron teammates Alison Owen (Mississippi State, 2014) and Nadia Taylor (Texas, 2012).

Also appearing for the NPF Team will be three players from the Pennsylvania Rebellion in Taylor Edwards (Nebraska, 2014), Tatum Edwards (Nebraska, 2014) and Briana Hamilton (Florida State, 2014).

Rounding out the NPF squad will be Brooke Foster (North Texas, 2014) and Lesley Hirsch (North Texas, 2013), who both played for current Louisiana associate head coach T.J. Hubbard during his six-year head coaching stint for the Mean Green.

The Cajuns, who ended the 2014 season with a No. 8 nationaly ranking following their sixth trip to the Women's College World Series and a 49-10-1 record, return 22 letterwinners from the 2013 squad.

For tickets, fans can contact the Cajundome Box Office at (337) 265-2100, the Ragin' Cajuns Softball office at (337) 262-2283 or e-mail softball@louisiana.edu.
