SAN MARCOS, Texas –
Facing a 2-0 halftime deficit, junior forward Elizabeth Manuel recorded a goal midway through the second half, but the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team was unable to complete their comeback in a 2-1 defeat to Texas State on Sunday afternoon.

Texas State (10-5-1, 5-2 SBC) posted a 16-8 advantage in shots and held Louisiana (8-7-2, 3-4-1 SBC) to a season-low one shot on goal compared to its six shots on target. Manuel and freshman midfielder Jorgie Smith led the Cajuns with two shots apiece while Tori Hale led the Bobcats with five shots, three being on goal.

Goalkeeper Caitlynn Rinehart (10-5-1) earned the win for the Bobcats, allowing one goal with no saves, while redshirt freshman goalie Alexias Stricklin (6-7-1) took the loss for the Cajuns, allowing two goals and collecting four saves.

Nearing 10 minutes into the match, Texas State grabbed a 1-0 advantage on Louisiana. Hale sliced through the Cajuns defense before sending the ball out of Stricklin's reach towards the right side of the goal to give the Bobcats the early lead.

Throughout the first half, the Cajuns had several chances to even the match but were unable to put a shot on goal. Freshman midfielder Hannah Alba placed a shot just high of the goal in the 18th minute, while sophomore midfielder Bailey Scott and Manuel had their shot attempts sail left in the 21st and 32nd minutes, respectively.

In the 34th minute, the Bobcats nearly extended their lead to 2-0, but Lynsey Curry's shot hit the crossbar to keep the match at 1-0. However, the Bobcats capitalized four minutes later as Rachel Grout sent a pass in front of the goal to Maddie Nichols before Nichols found the right side of the net for a 2-0 Texas State lead at the break.

In the second half, the Cajuns went without a shot until the 60th minute as Smith sent a shot just high of the goal. Manuel put Louisiana on the board in the 67th minute with a shot from the right side of the box that found the top left corner of the net to make it a 2-1 contest.

However, Louisiana was held without a shot the remainder of the contest as the Bobcats held on for the 2-1 victory.

The Cajuns close out the regular season next Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host ULM for Senior Day. Louisiana will honor Grace Howell-Harries and Tina Sanchez as they play their final match at the Cajuns Soccer Complex.
