LAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team will play host to its first tournament of the fall season this weekend, the Ragin' Cajun Women's Fall Classic, beginning Friday at Cajun Courts.
The Classic will feature the Ragin' Cajuns, in addition to 10 other teams from across Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi with action on both days scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
"The draw we have should guarantee each player five or six matches for the weekend," head coach Greg Harkins said. "That is a lot of matches, but it is good to see where we stand."
Also joining the Cajuns for the weekend will be squads from Lamar, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, New Orleans, Louisiana Tech, Northwestern State, Nicholls, ULM and LSU-Alexandria.
"It is a good group of teams that we have coming this weekend, and should be very competitive," Harkins said. "It is one of the bigger fall tournaments in this region."
Louisiana is coming off a strong showing at the Lady Demon Fall Invitational last weekend, winning 15 of 18 matches played. Freshmen Abby Johnson and Lauren Dupuis each posted 3-0 records for the weekend, claiming titles in the Nos. 5 and 6 flights, respectively.
The duo of Johnson and Alexandra Way took the No. 2 doubles flight in Natchitoches, while the tandem of Elena Sava and Juliette Clement captured the No. 3 flight in a field that included several teams that they will see again this weekend.
