Louisiana will make five appearances at home in October
LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team opens up their 2014 fall schedule Sunday at 2 p.m. with a scrimmage at Lamson Park, the first of five appearances the team will make at home during the month of October.
Following Sunday's scrimmage, the squad will take on Galveston College (Oct. 11), the National Pro Fastpitch All-Star Team (Oct. 18), McNeese State (Oct. 25) and LSU-Eunice (Oct. 29) before making a trip to Gulfport, Mississippi, to face Women's College World Series participant Florida State (Nov. 2) in a doubleheader. Louisiana will conclude its fall slate Nov. 8 with an Alumni Game.
The Cajuns will also bring attention to various causes that have affected the team and community in four of their fall games. The contest against Galveston College will serve as the Breast Cancer Awareness Game with the team sporting pink jerseys and holding a jersey auction. The following week against the NPF All-Stars, the Cajuns will bring awareness to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The game will serve special meaning to junior Kelsey Vincent and volunteer assistant coach Robert Verde, who both lost parents to the disease. The team will also take part in the American Heart Association Game on Oct. 29 and Nov. 8 to honor freshman Miranda Grotenhuis' father who died in July from a heart attack.
The Cajuns are coming off one of their most successful seasons in program history following a trip to their sixth WCWS appearance in 2014. Louisiana returns 25 players from last season's squad and welcomes 12 newcomers from Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi for the upcoming 2015 season.
