Ragin' Cajuns Strong On Day 1 Of Tournament

LAFAYETTE, La. - Alexandra Way picked up three total wins, advancing to the finals of Flight 4 singles, headlining Day 1 of the Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis Classic on Friday at Cajun Courts.
The Cajuns picked up six wins on the day against the 11-team field, two coming in doubles play and four coming on the singles side. Way's three victories led the Cajuns as she advanced to the finals of Flight 4 singles with wins over McNeese State's Hannah Brett (2-6, 6-1, (4)) and Southeastern Louisana's Dany Raygadas (6-5, 6-3). She also teamed up with Johnson in Flight 2 doubles to knock off the New Orleans duo of Lueth/Rashad (8-2.)
Meanwhile, Johnson picked up a singles win of her own in Flight 5 singles over LSU-Alexandria's Elizabeth Arens (6-3, 6-0) before falling to Nicholls' Laia Charles (6-4, 6-7 (5)). She will take on Southeastern Louisiana's Margaux Kaltenbacher in Saturday's consolation finals. She will also team up with Way on Saturday in the doubles semifinals against the Southeastern Louisaina tandem of Bustamante/Raygadas.
They are not the only Cajun duo to advance in to its flight's finals as Nelo Phiri and Elena Sava advanced with a first-round win over Louisiana Tech's Handa/Mercer (8-2). They will take on the team of Brock/Skopac from Nicholls on Saturday morning.
Sava also earned a singles win in Flight 2, knocking off Sarah Jurakova (7-2, 2-6, (8)) of McNeese State before falling to UNO's Soledad Caderon (6-7, 7-6, (8)). She will face McNeese State's Julia Kral in the consolation finals on Saturday.
Day 2 play is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Cajun Courts with singles play. Two rounds of doubles will follow the conclusion of singles play.
