LAFAYETTE, La. – Head coach Greg Harkins released the 2015 spring schedule for the Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team on Monday, with a pair of ranked opponents and nine home matches highlighting the 23-match slate.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns recently wrapped up a successful fall season and Harkins is confident that momentum will carry over into the spring, starting Feb. 11 when UL hosts Southern and Xavier (La.) at Cajun Courts.
Â
"It will be a challenging and exciting spring season," Harkins said. "We are very optimistic that with continued hard work we will see continued favorable results."
Â
It is the first season of a new version of mandated Sun Belt Conference scheduling that will feature both east and west pods. The Cajuns will be joined in the west by Texas State, UT Arlington, ULM and Arkansas State and will face each of those opponents away from home. UL will also face Troy and South Alabama from the east pod.
Â
The Cajuns will also get a look at nationally-ranked opponents at Rice (No. 23) and Samford (No. 65), while also hosting Air Force and traveling to take on North Florida and Central Florida in non-conference action.
Â
The schedule will also have a regional flare with meetings against Tulane, Southeastern La., Lamar, New Orleans and Southern Miss.
Â
Following opening day at home, the Cajuns will hit the road for five consecutive matches away from home beginning on Feb. 14 at Stephen F. Austin. They then travel to No. 23 Rice on the following day before traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss., for a road match vs Southern Miss and a neutral-site clash against Jackson State, both on Feb. 21.
Â
They return home on Feb. 25 for a matinee match against Southeastern Louisiana before going on the road once again for meetings at Troy (Feb. 28) and No. 65 Samford with the match vs Troy opening up SBC play.
Â
On March 4 the Cajuns will play host to both McNeese State and Alcorn State before Air Force comes to Cajun Courts on March 8. After a road trip to Tulane on March 10 pod play will begin as UL takes on Texas State and ULM on March 21 and 22 in Monroe, La.
Â
The lone SBC match played at Cajun Courts will come March 28 against South Alabama, sandwiched between meetings with Southland Conference foes Lamar (March 25) and Nicholls (March 31).
Â
The Cajuns will close out conference play on April 2 and 3 in Arlington when they take on UT Arlington and Arkansas State. The regular season then concludes on April 10 and 11 in Florida when UL takes on North Florida in Jacksonville and Central Florida in Orlando.
Â
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament is set for April 16-19 in New Orleans, La.
