Cajuns Baseball Set To Close Fall Practice With Fall World Series

LAFAYETTE, La. – For the fifth and final week of the Louisiana baseball fall workouts, the Ragin' Cajuns will play the Fall World Series to wrap up the fall season and the Omaha Cup.

The series begins on Monday with first pitch scheduled at 6 p.m. at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. The best-of-three series will continue on Tuesday, with first pitch also at 6 p.m., while the Fall World Series as well as the fall schedule wraps up on Thursday with the final contest at 6 p.m. Admission for the Fall World Series is free.

"We like the Fall World Series because we can back away and let the guys play," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "Sometimes you have to back away to see everything. What you look for in the Fall World Series is the things that you have been working on all fall, especially because we have so many young players. Another thing I like about the Fall World Series is that it brings another tier of pressure. Most of the guys already have one tier of pressure being freshmen or new to the program. This adds another tier because they haven't played in front of a crowd with the lights on yet."

The 43-man squad was split into two teams, the Swampers and Bayou Boys, at the beginning of fall practice and have been competing for the annual Omaha Cup. Heading into the final weekend of the fall the Swampers lead the cup standings with 1,585 points to 1,010 points for the Bayou Boys.

There are still a minimum of 730 points up for grabs with the Fall World Series making up 425 of the remaining points.

"I like where we are at as a team," Robichaux added. "I think our young guys are getting it, and our older guys have done a great job of showing leadership. I think the big key is to bring along our younger guys and get them as much experience as possible. I think our young guys are finally starting to understand how fast this game can be."
