FOR STARTERS
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns will shoot for a perfect non-conference home record on Wednesday when they close out a three-game homestand against Milligan College. The Buffaloes are off to a 10-4 start and 5-1 record in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, just a year removed from an 18-10. Â
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns exploded for their most points since 2002 and hit a school-record 16 three-point buckets in a 115-59 rout of Centenary on Saturday afternoon at the Cajundome.
Louisiana won for the third time in its last four games and had all 12 players to see the court put in at least four points in the 56-point win, with only one player playing more than 20 minutes. That one player was senior Xavian Rimmer, who broke out of his early-season shooting slump in a big way, hitting five of his seven tries from beyond the arc – all in the game's final five minutes – after starting the season just 3-for-19 from three-point range.
Rimmer finished with 15 points for the game as one of five Cajuns in double figures, but was the last Cajun player to find the scoring column after going 0-for-2 in the game's first 35 minutes. But he connected on a straightaway three at the 4:18 mark and followed by hitting his next four in a span of just 2:36, including his last one at the 1:42 mark to surpass the old school record of 15 threes as a team, a mark that had been matched three times previously, most recently in 2009.
The Cajuns finished the day hitting a season-high 59.5 percent from the floor against the Gents (4-7), while going over the century mark in scoring for the first time this season. The team also surrendered a season-low 10 turnovers, while forcing 18 with 14 steals. Â
UP NEXT
Louisiana will close out non-conference play on Dec. 20 at Northwestern State. The Cajuns will get an extended break over the Christmas holiday before returning to open up Sun Belt Conference play on Dec. 30 at UALR.
• The 115 points scored by the Ragin' Cajuns against Centenary was the most points by a UL team since scoring 117 against Louisiana College on Dec. 11, 2002. UL's 64 first-half points was the most since scoring 64 in the opening half against LC in the same game in 2002.
• The Ragin' Cajuns are 23/40 (.575) in their last two games from three-point range after hitting just 26/98 (.265) from three in their first seven games of the year.
• Xavian Rimmer had been just 3-for-19 from three-point range before hitting five threes against Centenary, all in a 2:36 span in the game's final four-plus minutes.Â
• All 12 players to see the court for UL saw the floor vs Centenary, with each scoring at least four points. Seven players contributed at least one three-point bucket in helping UL set a new school record with 16 triples.
• Brian Williams has scored in double figures in seven of 10 games this year, including each of his last six. In three years at Oklahoma State, Williams' longest streak of consecutive double-figure scoring games was three, which he did three times - twice his freshman season.
