Long Sweeps Sun Belt, LSWA, CSM Basketball Honors

Sophomore averaged a double-double in wins over UTA, Texas State
LAFAYETTE – After helping the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a two-game sweep through the state of Texas last week, Shawn Long swept through a trio of awards on Monday as he was named for the third time this season as the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week in a release by the league office.
Long, a 6-foot-9 forward, also picked up honors for the second time from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) as he was named the state's Men's College Basketball Player-of-the-Week, and College Sports Madness, which named him the Madness Sun Belt Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The Morgan City, La., native posted one of his best weeks of the season, averaging 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds and helping the Ragin' Cajuns (15-9, 6-5 SBC) claim road games at Sun Belt Conference opponents UT Arlington and Texas State. During the week, Long went 19-for-33 (57.6 percent) from the floor, was 3-for-6 from behind the 3-point line and made 10 of 13 attempts (76.9 percent) from the free throw line.Â
Long scored a career-high 31 points, going 11-for-17 from the field, in a 92-89 win at UTA on Thursday. He came back to record his 13th double-double of the season (and 31st in 56 career games) scoring a game-high 20 points with 13 rebounds in a 67-66 victory at Texas State on Saturday
The second-leading scorer in the Sun Belt Conference (20.3 ppg.) and league-leader in rebounds (10.9) and blocked shots (2.9), Long has scored 30 or more points twice in 2013-14 with a dozen 20-point efforts.
