The regular-season is officially over for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, but there is still plenty of basketball to be played as the Cajuns are the No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Championships that begin Thursday at New Orleans' Lakefront Arena.

The Cajuns ended the regular-season in dramatic fashion on Saturday with a 77-76 victory at Arkansas State in a battle for the third seed. Elfrid Payton's 3-pointer with 11.9 seconds remaining helped the Cajuns rally from an 11-point deficit and earn their 20th victory of the season

The win over A-State gave the Cajuns a first-round bye in the eight-team field. Louisiana will face the winner of No. 6-seeded UT Arlington and No. 7-seeded ULM on Friday, March 14 at 8:30 p.m. The winner of the quarterfinal contest will advance to face second-seeded WKU in the semifinals on March 15 at 4:30 p.m.

On the other side of the bracket, Georgia State secured the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed and will receive a bye into the semifinals. No. 5-seeded UALR will open the tournament against No. 8 Troy with the winner advancing to face fourth-seeded Arkansas State on March 14.

The championship game is scheduled for March 1 at noon with the winner receiving the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.

The 2014 Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship features two major changes. . . the venue and the format.

Last year, the tournament was held in Hot Springs, Ark., and featured a straight tournament setup with all 11 Sun Belt Schools in the field. The top three seeds received first-round byes and were required to win three games to claim the total. The remaining eight teams needed to win four games in four days to earn the crown, with WKU claiming the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.

This year, only the top eight teams (out of 10) will earn berths in the tournament field. The top two seeds will receive first and second-round byes while the teams seeded third and fourth will garner a first-round bye. That means the top two seeds will need to win just twice to claim the title while the third and fourth seeds will need three wins in three days and the fifth through eighth seeds needing four wins in four days.
