LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team picked up their second win of the season, defeating North Carolina, 6-5 in 10 innings, and fell to 2-2 with a 7-3 loss to Texas.

Junior pitcher Christina Hamilton picked up the win against North Carolina, pitching 6.0 no-hit innings of relief, striking out four, while walking one and hitting one for her first win of the season.

Sophomore transfer Lexie Elkins continued her strong start to the season, driving in four runs in the first game with her third home run of the season and an RBI double to tie the game in the sixth, eventually sending the game into extra innings.

After falling behind early in the game, Elkins put the Cajuns ahead with her three-run homer in the third inning.  North Carolina responded in their half of the fourth, scoring three runs of their own to take a 4-3 lead,

The Tar Heels added another run in the fifth with a solo home run to make it 5-3.

That ended the game for Smith.  She tossed 4.0 innings allowing five earned runs on eight hits and one walk, while fanning three batters.

The Ragin' Cajuns responded with back-to-back one-run innings, with an RBI single by Sarah Arceneaux and Elkins' RBI double to tie the game, 5-5.

Hamilton entered the game after the Heel's took the lead and held them off the board with a nearly flawless performance.  The junior retired the final 10 batters she faced including three perfect innings in extras, leading the Cajuns to their second victory of the season.

For the second night in a row the Cajuns jumped to an early lead against Texas, this time by way of a Haley Hayden home run, driving in Natalie Fernandez to jump up 2-0 early in the first inning.

Freshman pitcher Alex Stewart made her second start of the season and went the distance for the Cajuns, striking out nine batters in 6.0 innings while allowing six earned runs.  Side from a five-run fifth inning by the Longhorns, the freshman kept the aggressive Longhorns offense at bay throughout the game.

Due to Northern Iowa's travel arrangements, the Cajuns and Panthers game scheduled for 11:30 a.m. has been cancelled, and the Cajuns will take on Purdue at 11:30 instead.  All Schedules will remain the same.
