Elkins, Hamilton Highlight Cajuns on LSWA All-Louisiana Teams

LAFAYETTE, La. - After helping the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team to their sixth WCWS berth in school history, sophomore Lexie Elkins became the first player in Louisiana Sports Writers Association history to win two of the four major player categories in the LSWA Postseason Awards, picking up Hitter of the Year honors and Newcomer of the Year Honors.
Elkins was joined by Christina Hamilton, the LSWA Pitcher of the Year, as the two Cajuns to earn one of the major awards. The Ragin' Cajuns picked up the Hitter and Pitcher of the Year awards for the second straight season.
Elkins was also the first sophomore to win Hitter of the Year laurels in school history.
The Cajuns saw a state-best four players named to first-team All-Louisiana, with Natalie Fernandez and Haley Hayden joining Elkins and Hamilton on the list. Hayden finished one vote short of LSU's Sahvanna Jaquish for the LSWA Freshman of the Year.
The Cajuns did not place anyone on second-team All-Louisiana, but saw senior Shelbi Redfearn, along with sophomores Shellie Landry, Samantha Walsh, and Kelsey Vincent all earn Honorable Mention.
Elkins finished the season with the second-most home runs in a single season in Ragin' Cajuns history, slugging 24, including six in NCAA Tournament play, two of those coming in the WCWS.
Hamilton made the Cajuns the first team to ever sweep Hitter and Pitcher of the Year, after going 24-4, posting a better-than 20-game winning streak from February to May.
