Cajuns hold 5-4 lead in all-time series that dates back to 1977

LAFAYETTE – Officials from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the University of Tulsa announced on Thursday a home-and-home football series between the two institutions beginning in the 2017 season.

The series, which began in 1977, would resume with the Cajuns visiting Tulsa for a scheduled Sept. 9, 2017 contest at H.A. Chapman Stadium. The series would conclude on Sept. 28, 2019 with Louisiana hosting Tulsa at Cajun Field.

"We're excited to resume a football series against a school that has a great tradition in Tulsa," Louisiana Director of Athletics Scott Farmer said. "Our goal is to schedule home-and-home series against teams that our fans will enjoy watching, and Tulsa has had a history of success."

The teams have met nine times in school history with Louisiana holding a 5-4 lead in the all-time series. The last meeting between the schools was Oct. 31, 1992 with Tulsa earning a 27-9 victory over the visiting Cajuns.

"Tulsa is an outstanding football program that has enjoyed great success for a number of years," Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth said. "This will be a great head-to-head matchup against a quality non-conference opponent and it will create a very good environment when we play against each other at both universities."

Louisiana, which finished 9-4 and earned its third consecutive victory in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, will open the 2014 season at home on Aug. 30 against Southern University. Season tickets are available by calling the Cajundome Box Office at (337) 265-2100 or on-line at www.RaginCajuns.com/
