LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana's Edgar Lopez advanced out of the first round with a win over a former all-American to headline the opening day of the Cajun Tennis Classic for the Ragin' Cajuns.

Lopez was the lone Cajun to pick up a win on the day in a field made up of eight teams ranked in the nation's top 60 a year ago.  The junior from Mexico City rolled by Kentucky's Kevin Lai in straight sets (7-6, 6-1) to get out the opening round.

However, Lopez's second-round match with Georgia's Nick Wood was one of five matches with play suspended due to impending weather. Play for Day 2 of the Cajun Tennis Classic is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. with the resumption of suspended play, followed by the Consolation Singles bracket.

Jake Wynan dropped to the consolation bracket with a (6-3, 6-3) loss to Kentucky's William Bushamuka, but immediately advanced to the consolation quarterfinals after the tournament's top-seeded player – Georgia's Nathan Pasha – withdrew. Wynan will take on TCU's Guillermo Nunez on Friday, who advanced with a (6-4, 6-3) win over Texas' Adrien Berkowitz.

The Ragin' Cajuns are also guaranteed a second player in the consolation quarters as freshman Rok Sitar and Damian Farinola will resume their battle on Friday morning after Thursday's suspension of play. Sitar fell to the consolation bracket with an opening-round loss (6-3, 6-4) to Oklahoma State's Nathan Roper, while Farinola dropped his match (7-5, 6-1) to Georgia's Wayne Montgomery.

Freshman Vlad Kramarov rounded out the roster for the Cajuns, but dropped each of his first two collegiate matches on the day. He drew Georgia's Ben Wagland in the first round, falling (6-1, 6-2) before running into TCU's Trey Johnson in the consolation bracket. Johnson took that match by a (6-1, 6-1) mark.

Singles play will continue at 9:00 a.m. with the suspended matches, followed by the Championship Singles quarterfinals, scheduled for noon. Championship Doubles will begin and Consolation Singles play will continue, tentatively, at 2:30 p.m.

An evening session of Championship Doubles quarterfinals is also scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
