Cajuns Drop Third Straight At UTA

9/21/2014 2:53:00 PM | Volleyball

ARLINGTON, Texas – Caitlyn Auxilien had 19 digs and Kae Kae Lockhart added nine kills, but UT Arlington was too tough at home on Sunday afternoon, handing the Ragin' Cajuns their third consecutive loss, 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 18-25, 25-12) at the College Park Center.

UT Arlington (12-3, 2-1 SBC) held the Ragin' Cajuns (10-3, 0-3 SBC) to just .032 hitting for the afternoon, while hitting .232 itself. Lockhart's nine kills led UL, who had six players finish the match with at least five kills.

Mossakowski added seven kills, Kelly Wiesmann had six, and Abby Filce, Andrea Hole, and Kaylee Nemeth had five apiece. Auxilien's 19 digs were tops on the team and was just four shy of her season high, and Filce added a career-high six blocks.

Hole finished with 29 assists and 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the year, and third in a row.

Briana Sharratt and Hannah Baptiste led UTA with 11 kills apiece.

The Mavs had little trouble racing out to a 2-0 lead in the match, holding the Cajuns to -.040 combined hitting in the first two sets. Nemeth had three of her five kills on the match in the first set, but the Mavs led by as much as 10 points in the first set and as much as nine in the second, not trailing in either after the early stages.

UL responded out of the locker room in the third set, scoring 14 kills with just three misfires to get back in the match with a 25-18 win. Lockhart delivered five of her kills in the set, helping the Cajuns build a 17-10 lead midway through the set, a lead too large for the Mavs to overcome.

But UTA put it away in the fourth, jumping out to a 7-1 lead and building the lead to as much as 13 points at 23-10 on its way to a 25-12 win.

The Ragin' Cajuns return home this weekend for matches on back-to-back days against league newcomers Appalachian State and Georgia Southern. The Mountaineers will visit Earl K. Long Gym on Sept. 26 for a 7:00 p.m. match, while the Eagles and Cajuns will meet on Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
