ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team continues its fall season on Friday as they open play at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate held at the par-72, 7,562-yard UNM Championship Course.

The tournament features six teams ranked in the Golfweek top 50 including No. 11 UNLV, No. 15 TCU, No. 20 Colorado, No. 32 Colorado State, No. 33 New Mexico and No. 41 Louisiana. Arizona, BYU, Minnesota, New Mexico State, San Diego State, Texas Tech, UT Arlington, UTEP and Wyoming round out the 15-team field.

"We are very excited and honored to be competing in the William H Tucker Intercollegiate," head coach Theo Sliman said. "This event is the second oldest tournament in the country and has a tremendous amount of history with a long list of elite champions.

"This is one of the strongest fields we will see this fall, and we welcome the opportunity to compete against some solid teams that we do not see week in and week out. We are a solid team ourselves and must commit to our philosophy of learning and applying. Our work starts in the practice round and continues from there."

Play begins at 8 a.m. MT on both days with a shotgun start. The first and second rounds are slated to take place Friday, while the third and final round is scheduled for Saturday.

Louisiana has posted a top 3 performance in its first two events bouncing back from a slow start last time out to finish in a tie for third at the Memphis Intercollegiate.

The Cajuns are led by senior Louis Kelly who has finished no worse than sixth in the first two events of the season. Kelly is coming off of a sixth place finish at the Memphis Intercollegiate and has carded five rounds of par or better this year.

Joining Kelly in the lineup is Haraldur Magnus who has a 71.5 scoring average through two tournaments including a top 10 finish. Fernando Cruz Valle, Thomas Strandemo and Paul San make up the final three Cajuns in the lineup this weekend.

San is making his first career start for Louisiana. The freshman made an appearance at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate as an individual posting two rounds of par or better to finish in a tie for 28th.

"The course will be a great challenge.  The greens are severe and the rough is high. We need to bring patience as a key aspect for us collectively this week," Sliman added.
