LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana women's tennis head coach Greg Harkins has added a pair of players to his roster for the 2015 spring season in Kelly Drew and Polina Mutel.

Drew hails from Auckland, New Zealand and brings with her an ITF ranking of 461. One of New Zealand's top juniors, she has brought home titles as New Zealand Tennis Nationals Girls' 18 and under doubles champion and singles/doubles champion for the New Zealand Tennis Nationals 16 and Under category. She was also recently part of the winning team on that won the Caro Bowl, one of New Zealand's top team competitions.

"Kelly is a tremendous competitor and team player who will add strength in singles and doubles to our line-up. She had many offers from solid schools, we are delighted that she will be playing for us this spring," Harkins said. "Not only does she represent on courts but she is also a recipient of the Franklin Junior Sports Excellence Award as Sportswomen of the Year and overall sports person for U19 women in her region."

Meanwhile, Mutel comes to UL from Yaroslavl, Russia where she won numerous titles in Russia both regionally and nationally. In 2008 she and her partner won the Championship of Russia in doubles. Mutel has participated in prestigious US tournaments such as The Eddie Herr Championships, The Prince Cup and the Orange Bowl.

"Polina has a great understanding of match play," Harkins said. "She is a hard and determined worker and we are fortunate to have a player with Polina's credentials joining the squad. She has dreamed of being here and now her dreams are becoming reality."

Drew and Mutel will join freshman Elena Sava, Abby Johnson and Lauren Dupuis as newcomers on this spring's roster, each of whom competed in the fall season

"We are optimistic; there is definitely some depth to the squad this spring," Harkins said. "The competition is tough and there won't be any easy matches, but we feel confident that we will compete at a high level every time we step out onto the court."

The Ragin' Cajuns open up the 2015 season on February 11 when they host a pair of matches at Cajun Courts against Southern and Xavier (La.).
